This Privacy Policy explains how PathologiQ by SAVN ("we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the PathologiQ app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac (the "app"). PathologiQ is a medical reference and education tool for clinicians and students. It is not a medical record system.
We do not use advertising identifiers, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
The app uses your camera only when you take a photo or video for a story or your profile photo, or scan text into a note, and your microphone only while you record a story video or use voice search. Nothing is recorded in the background. Photos and videos you choose to share are uploaded to your account; anything you don't share stays on your device.
You can read conditions, drugs, tools and the library as a guest. Without an account we don't collect account or study information; features that save to an account (bookmarks, flashcards, Ask Patho, Leexa) ask you to sign in first.
Some topics include videos hosted on YouTube. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you tap play. The video then plays in YouTube's privacy-enhanced player, and YouTube (Google) may collect information under Google's Privacy Policy.
If you use voice search, the app uses Apple's speech recognition to turn your speech into text. Depending on your device, Apple may process the audio on its servers under Apple's Privacy Policy. We receive only the resulting text, which is handled like a typed search.
Subscriptions (Pro and Max) are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive confirmation of which plan you have, but never your payment details.
We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
Leexa is a community. Other signed-in members can see your username, profile photo, role, specialty, institution, bio, any social accounts you add, follower counts, and the posts and comments you publish. You can hide your real name, stop appearing in member search, and limit who can message you in Leexa → menu → Profile privacy. Direct and group messages are visible only to the people in the conversation.
If you add study buddies, they see only the dates you studied (never what you studied) so you can keep a shared streak. If you join the weekly leaderboard (it is off unless you turn it on), members of your school, specialty or buddy list who also joined see your name and weekly points. You can remove buddies or leave the leaderboard at any time.
We share information only with the companies that run parts of the app for us, and only for that purpose:
| Provider | What they do | Information involved |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Accounts, database, file storage, and server functions | Account, study activity, Leexa content, photos |
| Google (Gemini API) | Writes and checks Ask Patho answers and flashcards; finds related topics | Your question with the earlier messages of that chat, the related PathologiQ content, and text you make flashcards from |
| Groq | Runs open AI models (Llama, Kimi, gpt-oss) for Ask Patho and flashcards | Same as above |
| Microsoft (GitHub Models) | Runs GPT models for Ask Patho and flashcards | Same as above |
| OpenAI | GPT models for harder Ask Patho questions, if enabled | Same as above |
| Anthropic | Claude models for Ask Patho, if enabled | Same as above |
| OpenRouter | Backup access to additional AI models, if enabled | Same as above |
| Google (YouTube) | Plays embedded topic videos when you tap play | Information YouTube collects while the video plays |
| Netlify | Hosts this website | Standard web request data (such as IP address) needed to serve the site |
| Tally | Runs the waitlist sign-up form | Your email address, your role and whether you want to test the beta, if you join the waitlist |
| Google (Sheets) | Stores the waitlist | The same waitlist details, kept in our private spreadsheet |
| Sentry | Crash and error reporting | Crash data and device details |
| PostHog | Usage analytics | Feature and screen usage, app version and device type, linked to a random account ID |
| Google, Apple, Meta (Facebook) | Optional sign-in | Name and email from that service |
| Apple (Push Notification service) | Delivers notifications you switched on | Device push token and the notification text |
| Apple | App distribution, subscriptions, speech recognition | Purchase status; voice audio when you use voice search |
Your questions and text are sent to AI providers only to produce your answer or flashcards. Some AI providers, particularly on free plans, may use submitted content to improve their services, so never include patient information. Ask Patho conversations are saved in your account so you can return to them; you can delete them by deleting your account.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of our users or the public, or as part of a merger or sale of the business (in which case this policy continues to apply).
Our website works without cookies. If you join the waitlist, the sign-up form (run by Tally) opens only when you click Join the waitlist; your email, role and beta choice are stored by Tally and in our private Google Sheet, and we use them only to send launch news and, if you asked, your beta invite. Ask us any time to remove them. If we turn on visit counting, the site first asks for your permission. It uses GoatCounter, which doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across sites and doesn't record your IP address; your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage. The site loads its typeface from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address to deliver the font.
We keep your account, content, Ask Patho conversations and AI usage records for as long as your account exists. Crash data is kept only for the limited period set in our Sentry account. Usage analytics are kept only for the limited period set in our PostHog account. Topic requests are kept without your name after you delete your account.
You can delete your account at any time in the app: open your Profile and tap Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, study activity, bookmarks, flashcards and review progress, Ask Patho conversations and usage records, Leexa posts, comments, messages, follows, and uploaded photos, and deletes your login. It cannot be undone. Notes stored only on your device are removed when you delete the app.
You can view and change most of your information directly in the app. Depending on where you live — including California under the CCPA/CPRA — you may have the right to know what personal information we have about you, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing (we do not sell or share it). To use any of these rights, email us at the address below. We will verify your request and respond within the time the law requires, and we will not treat you differently for using your rights.
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access is limited by account-level security rules. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
PathologiQ is for healthcare professionals and students. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app before they take effect.
